Hyatt Place
Long Island City, NY

Industrial structure meets sculptural expression at Hyatt Place Long Island City. Located within one of New York’s most rapidly evolving neighborhoods, the design interprets the Hyatt Place Series 3 brand standard through a distinctly urban lens – grounded in materiality, art, and dimensional form.

The building’s long, narrow footprint shaped the spatial experience from the moment of arrival. Rather than compressing the lobby, the design embraces its linearity – creating a layered procession that unfolds through light, texture, and focal moments. A double-height volume amplifies verticality, balancing the elongated plan and establishing a strong architectural presence.

Sculptural Rhythm & Material Harmony

Behind the front desk, a bespoke feature wall composed of softly curved glass elements in pale gray, steel blue, champagne, bronze, and stone is set within a burnished steel framework. The installation introduces the project’s accent palette while creating depth and movement along the length of the space - serving as both visual anchor and sculptural counterpoint to the linear plan. Sculptural lighting reinforces rhythm and progression. A suspended LED installation at the entrance - hand-formed polished and patinated solid bronze with opal glass - draws the eye forward, emphasizing the lobby’s length while creating a warm, intimate glow. Custom pendants over the bar and a gloss white triptych fixture above the communal table establish moments of pause within the flow. In the dining area, spun reflector pendants in weathered copper layer warmth against the industrial framework.

Where Local Narrative Meets Brand Experience

Art plays a central role in grounding the hotel in place. Custom digital collage pieces created by a local New York City artist reinterpret iconic Long Island City landmarks through a contemporary lens. Developed in close collaboration with our team, the artwork pulls directly from the interior design palette, reinforcing color continuity while celebrating neighborhood identity. Displayed throughout the public spaces, the pieces activate the walls along the elongated volume, ensuring the experience feels curated and intentional. Public areas were designed to capture the creative energy of Queens while aligning with Hyatt Place brand requirements, including lounge seating, dining areas, bar, and kitchen zones. Zoning was carefully articulated to create intimacy within the linear plan - balancing openness with defined seating clusters that support both focused work and social interaction.

A Refined Expression of Branded Hospitality

While guestrooms adhere to the Hyatt Place Series 3 guestroom design standard, the public spaces elevate the branded hospitality experience through sculptural lighting, local art integration, and material-driven storytelling. Durable, high-performance finishes were selected to meet the demands of a high-traffic urban hotel environment, ensuring longevity without sacrificing visual impact. At its core, the project demonstrates how architectural constraints can become defining strengths. By embracing the building’s linear form and layering it with art, light, and material depth, the design transforms a narrow footprint into a dynamic, experience-driven hospitality environment rooted in place.
