Doubletree by Hilton
New York JFK Airport

Movement defines the experience here, but so does the need to pause. Located in New York City near JFK Airport, the hotel serves a dynamic mix of travelers, including frequent flight crews and international guests. The design responds to this constant rhythm of arrival and departure by creating spaces that feel composed, intuitive, and grounded.

Arrival & Social Experience

The experience begins in the lobby, where openness and structure are carefully balanced. A layered ceiling plane with integrated lighting draws the eye upward, guiding movement toward the reception area while softening the scale of the space. The front desk is anchored by a custom mural - an abstracted aerial composition of JFK Airport that captures the geometry of runways and the flow of aircraft overhead. Both expressive and atmospheric, the artwork introduces a strong sense of place while reflecting the energy of travel in a more contemplative way. Seating zones in the lobby are arranged to support a range of experiences - from brief transitions to extended stays. For flight crews in particular, these spaces offer a place to decompress between schedules, balancing social interaction with moments of retreat. Warm wood tones, tailored upholstery, and textured finishes create an environment that feels both refined and resilient.

Lounge to Guest Room Retreat

The transition into the lounge unfolds seamlessly. Central communal tables anchor the space, encouraging shared use throughout the day, while adjacent seating areas provide flexibility and choice. A sculptural wood slat partition introduces rhythm and verticality, subtly defining zones without enclosing them. Beyond, the bar becomes a focal point - its backlit display adding depth and warmth, establishing the space as both a destination and a continuation of the overall experience. Material continuity ties these public spaces together, creating a cohesive visual language that moves fluidly from arrival to lounge. In the guest rooms, the design shifts to a more intimate and restorative scale. A soft, neutral foundation layered with warm wood tones and subtle texture establishes an atmosphere that feels calm and enveloping. The headboard wall acts as the room’s defining architectural element, integrating lighting and millwork into a cohesive composition that anchors the space with clarity and balance. Clean lines and considered detailing create visual order, while thoughtful planning supports both short stays and irregular schedules. Removed from the pace of travel beyond the window, the rooms offer a sense of retreat designed to restore and reset. Throughout, the project is guided by a singular intention: to create a hospitality experience that feels effortless yet considered - where every space supports the natural rhythm of movement, while offering moments to pause, reset, and feel grounded.
